Breastmilk Jewellery Aftercare
💫 Breastmilk Jewellery Care Guide
Your breastmilk has been beautifully preserved and set in resin to create your one-of-a-kind milk stone. To keep your jewellery looking its best for years to come, please follow these simple care tips:
💎 General Resin Care
- Avoid Scratches: Try not to bump, drop, or scrape your jewellery. Take it off when doing manual work, exercising, or using tools.
- Keep It Dry: Resin is water-resistant, not waterproof. Always remove your jewellery before showering, swimming, or washing dishes.
- Avoid Heat: Sudden temperature changes can cause the resin to expand or contract, which may affect the stone’s appearance.
- Limit Sun Exposure: Store your jewellery out of direct sunlight. Too much sun can soften or discolour the resin.
- Avoid Smoke: Frequent contact with smoke can cause yellowing over time.
- No Harsh Chemicals: Keep your jewellery away from perfumes, hairspray, cleaning products, hand sanitiser, nail polish remover, and chlorine.
💍 Metal Care
Sterling Silver
- Sterling silver can naturally oxidise (darken) over time — this is normal and easy to fix.
- To keep it shiny:
- Store your silver pieces in an airtight bag or jewellery box when not in use.
- Avoid moisture, sweat, and chemicals.
- Use a soft silver polishing cloth to gently remove tarnish (avoid liquid silver dips).
- Wearing your silver jewellery regularly can actually help prevent tarnish — your skin’s natural oils protect the metal.
Gold-Filled Jewellery
- Gold-filled jewellery is durable and long-lasting but still needs gentle care.
- To maintain its shine:
- Avoid exposure to chemicals, perfumes, and chlorine.
- Wipe gently with a soft, lint-free cloth after wearing.
- Store separately to prevent scratching.
Gold Vermeil Jewellery
- Gold vermeil is sterling silver coated with a thick layer of gold. It offers the look of solid gold at a more affordable price but requires a little extra care.
- To keep your vermeil beautiful:
- Avoid moisture, perfumes, lotions, and cleaning products, as these can wear away the gold layer.
- Remove before showering, swimming, or sleeping.
- Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth — never use silver polish or abrasive materials.
- Store in a soft pouch or box to protect it from friction and scratching.
💔 If Your Jewellery Becomes Damaged
If your piece becomes scratched, dull, or discoloured, please get in touch. I’ll provide a quote once I’ve seen photos of the damage.
- Yellowing: Each milk stone is unique. I use high-quality, non-yellowing resin, but changes can happen if care instructions aren’t followed. Often, the top layer can be removed and re-coated to restore its appearance.
- Scratches or Dullness: A new top coat can usually bring back the shine. If not, a full remake may be an option.
Please note, I am unable to remake jewellery free of charge if an item becomes damaged due to eventual wear and tear. I do however store your preserved breastmilk for two years, and can therefore make up new or additional pieces of jewellery for you at any stage during this time.
