Breastmilk F.A.Q’s
How much breastmilk do you need for the jewellery?
Just 10ml is needed to transform your milk into Breastmilk Jewellery. This amount is enough to make around 5 separate pieces of jewellery, so no more is needed if you have ordered more than one piece, or would like to add to your collection at a later date.
If your supply is low and you are worried you won’t have enough milk, I can work with much less. Please do not hesitate to email me if you have any questions or concerns regarding this.
Can you work with frozen breastmilk?
YES, I can work with milk that has been frozen for years, or milk that has been freshly expressed. Either way, this will not affect the quality of your milk stone.
How do I get my breastmilk to you?
Upon ordering, a milk collection kit is sent out in the post for you, which contains everything you need to safely return your breastmilk to me. This includes:
⚡️ Two 5ml collection tubes
⚡️ Instructions
⚡️Clear bags (for the filled tubes to be placed inside of)
⚡️Ring sizer (if required)
The instructions outline everything you need to know, from transferring your frozen breastmilk, to correctly taking your ring size, and returning your milk in the post to me. Upon receipt of your milk at the studio an email will be sent so you know I have your milk and it is safely being stored, ready to be preserved.
If you are local and live in the Bristol area, please feel free to drop your milk over to me in the tubes provided, if you would prefer.
What happens to my breastmilk once you have finished with my order?
I ask for 10ml of breastmilk, expertly preserving 5ml and turning it into your chosen milk stone. The remaining 5ml is then kept safe in a freezer for up to two years. This ensures I have your milk, should any re-makes or additional orders be required during this time.
If for any reason you do not wish for your milk to be stored, please let me know and I can deal with this accordingly.
Can I order if I don’t know my ring size?
Yes – upon ordering just select the option that states you do not know your ring size and a ring sizer will be posted out for you, along with your milk collection kit, free of charge.
Can I request any changes to the design?
Yes – there is a box under each product which allows space for you to write your design requirements. This may include a different chain, chain length or any other slight variations to the design. Please add your design request to this section and I will email you upon receipt of your order. Alternatively, please feel free to drop me an email to discuss your design requirements prior to ordering.
How do I care for my breastmilk jewellery?
Full care instructions are sent out with every order to help you care for your jewellery. I also offer a service to restore your milk stones, should they become scratched or damaged.
Will my breastmilk maintain its appearance over time?
I understand how precious these pieces are to you, and as such, only the highest quality of materials are used to make your breastmilk jewellery. This includes resin that has a long-lasting non-yellowing protective coating to keep your jewellery looking its best for years to come.
If you do notice changes to the appearance of your milk stone, this is almost always due to resin care rather than the brand or type of resin, or insufficient breastmilk preservation. The top layer can often be removed and re-coated, depending on the damage.
What is the turn-around time?
The turn-around time is currently 14 weeks, from the date I get your breastmilk back at the studio. However, this may change for specific designs and custom orders, for which you will be notified.
Once we receive your milk back at the studio we will send you an email to confirm safe receipt and give you your completion date. Please check your junk mail if you cannot see yours.
If you need your order for a specific date, please let us know. We will always do our best to accommodate this, when possible.
Will my milk be okay in the post?
Yes – as your milk is being used for jewellery and not human consumption, a few days in the post will be absolutely fine. I check your milk upon its arrival here at my studio in Bristol and will notify you if there are any concerns. Most people choose to return their milk via standard first class post.
What is the difference between the milk stone finishes?
There are three different finishes for your milk stones, each with subtle variations to enhance your jewellery, all equally as stunning as each other.
🌟 GOLD DUST – Adds a subtle pearlescent shine to your stone, it is slightly creamy in colour, but will work with your breastmilk to enhance it in the most special way.
✨ OPAL SHIMMER – This one is a firm favourite with you all, and it is easy to see why. Opal shimmer contains both opalescent flakes and shimmer to add sparkle to your stone. Capture it in the sunlight and you will truly see how beautiful this one can be ☀️
🤍 PURE – As per the name, Pure is simply your milk preserved and set into a stone. No extras added. If you are wanting to capture your breastmilk in its purest form, then this one is for you.
Please note, everyone’s milk differs in colour, which is reflected in the stones I create, and all variations are beautiful and completely unique to you. You will see pictures of the different milk stone finishes on each of the product photos, and I am more than happy to discuss this with you and send you extra photos to help you feel confident in your decision.
Can Hair and other inclusions be added to the milk stones?
Yes. For most of the designs it is possible to add additional inclusions, such as hair and cord. If you would like both hair and cord added, please pop a note in the design requirements section and I will ensure everything you need is posted out with your milk collection kit.
