Ashes Jewellery Aftercare
🌿 Ashes Jewellery Care Guide
Your ashes jewellery has been lovingly handcrafted using resin to preserve your precious inclusions and create a truly meaningful keepsake. To ensure your piece remains as beautiful as the day you received it, please follow these simple care instructions:
💎 Resin Care
- Avoid Scratches: Try not to bump, drop, or scrape your jewellery, as this could damage the resin. Remove it during manual work, cleaning, or exercise.
- Keep It Dry: Resin is water-resistant but not waterproof. Please remove your jewellery before showering, swimming, or washing dishes.
- Avoid Heat: Large temperature changes can cause the resin to expand or contract, which may affect its appearance.
- Limit Sun Exposure: Store your jewellery out of direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure can cause resin to soften or discolour.
- Avoid Smoke: Regular contact with smoke may cause yellowing over time.
- No Harsh Chemicals: Keep your jewellery away from perfumes, hairspray, hand sanitiser, cleaning products, nail polish remover, and chlorine.
💍 Metal Care
Sterling Silver
- Sterling silver naturally oxidises (darkens) over time — this is completely normal.
- To keep it bright and shiny:
- Store it in an airtight pouch or jewellery box when not being worn.
- Avoid contact with moisture, lotions, and cleaning agents.
- Gently polish with a soft silver cloth to remove tarnish (avoid silver dips).
- Wearing your silver regularly can actually help slow tarnishing, as your skin’s natural oils protect the metal.
Gold-Filled Jewellery
- Gold-filled pieces are durable and high-quality, but they still need gentle care.
- To maintain their shine:
- Avoid exposure to perfumes, chemicals, and chlorine.
- Wipe gently with a soft, lint-free cloth after each wear.
- Store separately to prevent scratching.
Gold Vermeil Jewellery
- Gold vermeil is sterling silver coated with a thick layer of gold. It offers the beauty of solid gold at a more accessible price but needs a little extra care.
- To keep it looking beautiful:
- Avoid moisture, perfumes, lotions, and cleaning products, which can wear down the gold layer.
- Remove before showering, swimming, or sleeping.
- Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth only — never use silver polish or abrasive materials.
- Store in a soft pouch or lined box to protect it from friction.
💔 If Your Jewellery Becomes Damaged
If your piece becomes scratched, dull, or discoloured, please get in touch — we can provide a quote once photos are received.
- Yellowing: This is almost always related to resin care (such as heat, sunlight, or chemical exposure) rather than the resin itself. In many cases, the top layer can be carefully removed and re-coated to restore its clarity.
- Scratches or Dullness: A fresh top coat can often restore shine. However, in some cases a full replacement may be easier.
🕊 Preserved Elements
Please retain a small amount of your inclusions (such as ashes, hair, or other elements) whenever possible. This makes it much easier to remake or restore your piece in the future.
If you no longer have your inclusions, we may still be able to attempt a repair — though results can’t be guaranteed.
